Creamy Base

Method

Creamy Base

  1. 1

    Soften and combine

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer until smooth and lump-free (about 1–2 minutes). Add the sour cream, mayonnaise, and cream of celery soup and mix until fully incorporated and smooth.

Seafood & Vegetables

  1. 2

    Prepare seafood and vegetables

Fold the chopped crab (or imitation crab), diced celery, chopped green onions, and chopped red bell pepper into the creamy base. Stir gently until evenly distributed so the pieces remain distinct.

Seasoning & Cheese

  1. 3

    Season and cheese

Add the grated cheddar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and hot sauce (if using) to the mixture. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Mix thoroughly so the cheese is evenly distributed.

Topping & Garnish

  1. 4

    Assemble in baking dish

Transfer the dip into a 1.5–2-quart oven-safe baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle the extra grated cheddar evenly over the top.

  2. 5

    Prepare breadcrumb topping

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and melted butter. Mix until crumbs are lightly coated, then sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the cheese layer.

  3. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbling around the edges and the top is golden brown. If you want a deeper brown top, broil for 1–2 minutes while watching carefully.

  4. 7

    Finish and serve

Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top and serve warm with lemon wedges on the side. Serve with crackers, toasted baguette slices, or vegetable crudités.
