Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it is nicely chilled.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 8 ice cubes, then pour in 1 oz vodka, 0.5 oz gin, 0.75 oz orange liqueur, 1.5 oz cranberry juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds, until the shaker exterior becomes noticeably cold and the ingredients are well integrated and slightly diluted.

  4. 4

    Strain

Dump the ice water from the chilled glass (if used). Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne and/ or fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

    Express citrus oils

Take the lemon twist and gently hold it over the surface of the cocktail, skin side down, then give it a quick squeeze to express the oils across the drink. If using a small amount of orange zest, lightly rub it on the rim first and drop it into the drink.

  2. 6

Rest the lemon twist on the rim or float it on the surface. Serve immediately while cold.
