Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass (optional)

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink is served cold.

  2. 2

Add Brickyard Bourbon, Aperol, Cruella Amaro, and fresh lemon juice to a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill the shaker). Secure the lid.

  4. 4

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and well chilled. The goal is rapid dilution and aeration to balance the strong 1:1:1 spirit/amaro components with the lemon.

  5. 5

Discard ice or water from the chilled glass if you used ice water. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

Garnish

  1. 6

Express the lemon twist over the drink: hold the twist skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the surface and give it a firm twist to release oils over the cocktail.

  2. 7

Rub the rim of the glass with the twist (optional) and drop the twist into the drink or rest it on the rim.
