Method
Cocktail
- 1
Combine
Add 1.5 oz J. Carver Cruella Amaro, 0.5 oz Fratello hazelnut liqueur, 1 oz half-and-half, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.
- 2
Add bitters (optional)
If using, add 2 dashes of chocolate or aromatic bitters to the shaker to deepen the flavor.
- 3
Shake with ice
Fill the shaker with large ice cubes (about 4) and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and lightly aerates the cream for a velvety texture.
- 4
Double-strain
Place a coupe or chilled rocks glass nearby. Use a Hawthorne strainer and (optional) a fine mesh strainer to pour the cocktail into the glass, leaving the ice behind in the shaker. Double-straining removes small ice chips and yields a smooth surface for the garnish.
Garnish & Finish
- 5
Lightly grate 1/2 tsp chocolate shavings over the surface of the cocktail or dust with cocoa powder for an aromatic finish.
- 6
If desired, skewer a toasted hazelnut and rest it on the rim or place it on the surface as a visual accent.
Serve
- 7
Serve immediately while cold. Sip and enjoy the interplay of chocolate, nutty Fratello, and the rounded amaro bitterness balanced by cream and a touch of syrup.
