Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Grimm Farm gin, 0.5 oz maraschino liqueur, 0.25 oz crème de violette, and 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice. If you prefer the cocktail slightly sweeter, add 0.125 oz (a barspoon) simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with about 4–6 large ice cubes. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker feels very cold and the exterior is frosted.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass and fine-strain

Discard ice water from the chilled glass (if used). Double-strain the shaken cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer into the chilled coupe to catch small ice shards and any pulp from the lemon juice. This yields a silky texture and clear appearance.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with one Luxardo or brandied cherry dropped into the center of the glass. Optionally express a lemon twist over the drink and discard or place on the rim. Serve immediately.

  6. 6

    Notes

Crème de violette is potent; adjust between 0.25–0.5 oz to taste. Using fresh lemon juice is important for brightness. The optional simple syrup helps balance if your lemons are particularly tart or if you prefer a softer profile.
