Prepare the Pears
Peel and slice the pears in half. Remove the core and set aside.
Heat the Butter
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until bubbly.
Cook the Pears
Add the pear halves to the skillet, cut side down. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until lightly browned.
Add Flavorings
Flip the pears over and add the ginger molasses, dark rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Stir gently to coat the pears.
Flame the Rum
Carefully ignite the rum with a long lighter or match to flambé the pears. Allow the flames to subside, then reduce heat to low.
Simmer
Cover the skillet and let the pears simmer in the sauce for an additional 5-10 minutes, until tender.
Serve
Serve the pears warm, drizzled with the sauce, and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
