Tea + Water

Method

Tea + Water

1

Boil water

Pour 2 cups (about 480 ml) of fresh cold water into a kettle or small saucepan. Heat until it reaches a rolling boil. If using delicate green or white tea, bring water to just below boiling (about 175–185°F / 80–85°C) instead.

2

Warm cup (optional)

Pour a small amount of the hot water into your teacup to warm it, swirl briefly, then discard the water.

3

Steep tea

Place 1 tea bag or the equivalent loose-leaf tea (about 1 tsp) into an infuser in the cup or a teapot. Pour the hot water over the tea. Steep according to tea type: 3–5 minutes for black tea, 2–3 minutes for green tea, 5–7 minutes for herbal tisanes. Adjust steeping time to taste (longer = stronger, more bitter).

4

Remove tea

When the desired strength is reached, remove the tea bag or strain out the loose leaves to stop steeping.

Optional Additions

5

Sweeten

If desired, stir in 1 tsp sweetener (sugar, honey, or agave) while the tea is hot so it dissolves fully. Adjust amount to taste.

6

Add milk or lemon

For milk tea, add 2 tbsp milk or creamer and stir. For lemon-flavored tea, add a wedge or slice of lemon. (Do not add milk and lemon together — lemon can curdle dairy.)

7

Garnish

Optionally add fresh mint leaves or a lemon twist for aroma and presentation.

8

Serve

Serve immediately while hot. Re-steep loose leaves once more only if they remain flavorful; steeping time for additional rounds should be slightly longer.
