Method

Brew

1

Measure and grind

Measure 0.5 cups of decaffeinated whole beans (about 56–60 g). Grind to the appropriate consistency for your brewing method: medium-coarse for French press, medium for drip coffee maker, fine for espresso or Aeropress (adjust volume if using espresso).

2

Prepare water

Bring 4 cups (about 950 ml) of fresh cold water to the proper temperature: 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds to 1 minute.

3

Brew (French press method - default)

Add the ground decaf coffee to the French press. Pour half the hot water over grounds, saturating them evenly, and let bloom for 30 seconds. Pour remaining water, stir gently to ensure all grounds are wet, place the lid with plunger pulled up, and brew for 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, press the plunger down slowly and steadily.

4

Alternate brew methods

For drip coffee maker: place grounds in filter and brew with 4 cups hot water, using the machine per manufacturer instructions. For pour-over: use a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio (adjust if needed), pour slowly in concentric circles. For Aeropress: use 14–16 g grounds with 200–240 ml water, steep 1–2 minutes and press. Adjust grind and time for desired strength.

5

Serve

Immediately pour brewed decaf coffee into cups or a thermal carafe to prevent over-extraction or bitterness from sitting on hot grounds. Taste and adjust with optional add-ins if desired.

Optional Add-ins

6

Sweeten: Stir in granulated sugar (start with 1 tbs) or 1 tsp simple syrup until dissolved.

7

Creamer: Add milk or milk alternative to taste (start with 1/2 cup across 4 cups coffee for a lightly creamy result).

8

Flavoring: For a flavored cup, stir in 1/4 tsp vanilla extract or sprinkle 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon on top. Adjust amounts to taste.

9

Serve immediately after adding any milk or sweetener to preserve temperature and flavor. Reheat gently if needed; avoid boiling to prevent taste degradation.
