Method

Preparation

1

Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

2

Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. If using, add paprika and garlic powder for additional flavor. Gradually whisk in cold water until the batter is smooth and has a consistency similar to pancake batter.

Frying

3

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

4

Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

5

Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Do not overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

6

Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining onion rings. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
