Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Build and stir

Place a mixing glass or small rocks glass on your work surface. Add 0.25 oz simple syrup and 3 dashes Angostura bitters plus 1 dash orange bitters (if using) to the glass. Pour 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey over the syrup and bitters.

2

Add ice and chill

Add a large ice cube or enough ice to nearly fill the glass. Using a bar spoon, stir gently but steadily for about 20–30 seconds (15–20 full rotations) until the drink is well chilled and slightly diluted.

3

Strain and serve

If you built the cocktail in a mixing glass, strain the chilled cocktail into a rocks glass over a fresh large ice cube. If you built it in the serving glass, leave as is.

4

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel by holding it over the glass and giving it a sharp twist so the oils spray onto the surface. Rub the peel around the rim, then drop it into the glass. Add a maraschino cherry if desired.

5

Serve immediately and enjoy. Adjust sweetness or bitters to taste: increase simple syrup by 0.125–0.25 oz if you prefer sweeter, or add another dash of bitters for more spice.
