Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by filling it with ice and cold water while you build the cocktail, or place it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or tall mixing vessel, add 2 oz aged rum, 0.75 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz orange curaçao, 0.25 oz grenadine, and 1 dash orange bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with enough ice to come near the rim (about 1 cup). Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 4

    Prepare garnish

Discard the ice/water from the chilled serving glass. Express the oils of an orange twist over the glass by holding the twist skin-side down and giving it a firm snap about 2–3 inches above the glass, then rub the peel on the rim and set it on the rim or float it in the drink.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Double-strain (or fine-strain if preferred) the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe. Garnish with the prepared orange twist. Serve immediately.
