1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail so the drink stays cold and crisp.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour 2 oz London dry gin, 0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse, and add 2 dashes of orange bitters.

3

Stir until cold

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full spoon turns) until the outside of the glass feels very cold and the liquid is well chilled and slightly diluted. The Alaska is traditionally stirred, not shaken, to preserve clarity and texture.

4

Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, discard the ice water now and briefly dry the inside of the glass with a clean towel or let it drip for a few seconds.

5

Strain and garnish

Double-strain (or fine-strain if you prefer) the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass. Express the oils of a lemon twist over the surface by holding the twist between thumb and forefinger and giving it a short snap above the drink, then run the twist around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

6

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the interplay of herbal yellow Chartreuse with the juniper-forward gin and the citrus accent from the bitters and twist.
