Method
Hot Coffee
Heat Water
Bring fresh water to a boil, then remove from heat and let sit 30 seconds to reach about 200°F (93°C). Use filtered water for best flavor.
Prepare Coffee
Place 2 tablespoons of freshly ground coffee (medium grind) in your preferred brewer (drip basket, pour-over cone, French press, or espresso maker as applicable).
Brew
Pour 12 oz (about 350 ml) of hot water evenly over the grounds. If using a French press, steep 4 minutes then press. If using pour-over or drip, allow water to pass through fully.
Hot Tea
Heat Water to Appropriate Temperature
Bring fresh water to a boil. For black or herbal tea use water just off boil (~212°F / 100°C). For green or white tea, remove from boil and cool 1–2 minutes to about 170–185°F (77–85°C).
Steep Tea
Place 1 tea bag or the equivalent amount of loose leaf tea in an infuser into a warmed cup. Pour 12 oz (about 350 ml) of hot water over the tea. Steep for the appropriate time: black 3–5 minutes, green 2–3 minutes, herbal 5–7 minutes. Adjust to taste.
