Method
Coffee Base
Measure and grind
Weigh 33 g (0.033 kg) of whole coffee beans — this yields roughly one large cup (about 350 ml brewed). If you don't have a scale, use about 6 to 7 level tablespoons of whole beans. Grind to the appropriate grind size: medium-coarse for a French press, medium for a drip/pour-over, and fine for an espresso machine. Use a burr grinder for consistent particle size.
Heat water
Bring 350 ml filtered water to 92–96°C (197–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.
Bloom (pour-over or drip)
If using pour-over or drip: place filter and add the ground coffee. Start by pouring about 60 ml of the hot water over the grounds to saturate them evenly. Let bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2.
Brew
Continue pouring in slow, concentric circles (for pour-over) until reaching 350 ml total water. Aim for a total brew time of 2.5–4 minutes for pour-over, 4 minutes for French press (steep), or follow your machine's extraction time for espresso. For French press: add grounds, pour all 350 ml water, stir gently, steep 4 minutes, then press down slowly.
Serve
Once brewed, immediately pour the coffee into your cup to avoid over-extraction and bitterness.
Optional Additions
Sweeten
If you prefer sweetened coffee, add 2 tsp granulated sugar or 15 ml simple syrup while the brewed coffee is hot so it dissolves easily. Adjust to taste.
Add milk or cream
Warm 60 ml milk (or 30 ml heavy cream for a richer cup) to about 60–65°C (140–150°F). Froth if desired. Pour warmed milk or cream into the brewed coffee to taste (commonly about 60 ml for a cafe-style cup).
Flavor finishing
For a flavored note, stir in 0.25 tsp vanilla extract or sprinkle 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon on top. Mix gently and taste-adjust.
Equipment (not edible)
Use the listed equipment to prepare the coffee: grind beans with the burr grinder; measure with a scale; heat water in the kettle; brew using your chosen method (pour-over, French press, drip, or espresso machine). Rinse the filter (if using a paper filter) with hot water before brewing to remove paper flavor and preheat the dripper. Clean equipment after use.
