Toppings

Method

Prepare the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Beef

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until the ingredients are just combined; do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover with a lid to help melt the cheese.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 6

    Slice the Tomato

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato into even rounds.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Lettuce

Wash the lettuce leaf and pat it dry with a paper towel.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cheeseburger patty, a slice of tomato, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
