Preparation

1. Clean the Oysters

Rinse the fresh oysters under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris. Use a brush to scrub the shells if necessary.

2. Shuck the Oysters

Using an oyster knife, carefully insert the knife into the hinge of the oyster shell. Twist the knife to pry the shell open, then slide the knife along the inside of the top shell to cut the muscle that holds the oyster in place. Remove the top shell and discard it, leaving the oyster on the bottom shell.

3. Prepare the Serving Plate

Arrange the shucked oysters on a serving plate over crushed ice to keep them chilled. This enhances the presentation and keeps the oysters fresh.

4. Serve with Accompaniments

Place lemon wedges, cocktail sauce, and hot sauce on the side of the serving plate for guests to add according to their preference.
