Method
Burger Patties
- 1
Form Patties
Divide the ground beef into six equal portions (about 6 oz each). Gently form each portion into a patty about 3/4 to 1 inch thick with a slight indent in the center (this helps prevent bulging during cooking). Handle the meat as little as possible to avoid compacting it.

Grill Patties
Place patties on the hot grill or griddle, indent side up. Cook for 3.5–4 minutes on the first side without pressing down. Flip once and cook another 3–4 minutes for medium doneness. For a temperature guide: 120–125°F rare, 130–135°F medium-rare, 140–145°F medium, 150–155°F medium-well. Adjust times slightly for your grill and patty thickness.

Prepare Toppings
While patties cook, wash and dry lettuce leaves. Slice tomatoes 1/4 inch thick and thinly slice the red onion. Arrange pickles and any optional add-ons (bacon, jalapeño, mushrooms).

Assemble Sauces
Portion ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise into small bowls or squirt bottles for easy assembly. If desired, mix mayo and ketchup 1:1 for a simple burger sauce.

Assemble Burgers
Place a toasted bottom bun on a plate. Add lettuce, then the hot cheeseburger patty. Top with tomato slice, red onion, and pickles. Add bacon or other optional add-ons if using. Spread ketchup, mustard, and/or mayonnaise on the top bun and place on the burger. Serve immediately.
