Tea base

Method

Tea base

1

Brew green tea

Bring 1.5 cups (360 ml) of water to just under a boil (about 175–185°F / 80–85°C). Steep 1.5 teaspoons of loose green tea (or one green tea bag) for 2–3 minutes for a mild, non-bitter brew. Do not oversteep. Remove the leaves or tea bag and let the tea cool to room temperature (about 10–15 minutes). If you want the drink slightly sweetened, stir in 1 teaspoon of honey while the tea is still warm so it dissolves, then cool.

Yogurt mixture

2

Prepare yogurt base

In a blender or a jar with a tight lid, combine 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste). Blend on medium speed until smooth and slightly frothy, about 20–30 seconds. The mixture should be pourable but slightly thick. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.

3

Combine tea and yogurt

Once the green tea has cooled to room temperature, slowly pour 1 cup of the cooled green tea into the blender with the yogurt mixture while the blender runs on low, blending just until combined (5–10 seconds). Reserve about 1/2 cup of the cooled tea to adjust consistency or for a layered look.

4

Chill and adjust

Add 4–6 ice cubes to a tall glass. Pour the yogurt-green tea mixture over the ice. If the drink is too thick, stir in the reserved cooled tea a tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency. Taste and add extra sweetener if needed (dissolve a little sugar in warm water or add simple syrup).

Garnish and serve

5

Finish the drink by lightly dusting 1/4 teaspoon matcha powder over the top or sprinkling a pinch of finely ground green tea for aroma. Garnish with 2 fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately with a wide straw or spoon if you prefer a thicker texture.
