Method
Dry ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
Wet ingredients
In a separate bowl or large measuring cup, whisk the eggs until blended. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract and whisk until the mixture is uniform.
Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Small lumps are okay — do not overmix or the waffles may become tough.
Let the batter rest for 5–10 minutes at room temperature. This allows the baking powder to activate fully and the flour to hydrate, producing lighter waffles.
Cooking
Cook waffles
Pour a ladleful (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, depending on your waffle iron size) of batter onto the center of the preheated waffle iron. Close the lid and cook until the waffle is golden brown and crisp, about 3–5 minutes. Cooking time varies by iron; check the manufacturer's guidance and the waffle's color/texture.
Carefully remove the cooked waffle and transfer to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to keep crisp. If making multiple waffles, keep finished waffles warm in a single layer in a 200°F (95°C) oven while you finish cooking the rest.
Serve
Serve waffles immediately topped with maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, or any preferred toppings. Enjoy while hot and crisp.
