In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the grated ginger and boil for about 10 minutes.

After boiling, strain the ginger-infused water into a large bowl or pot, discarding the ginger pulp.

While the water is still warm, stir in 1 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of lime juice until dissolved.
