Batido (shake)
Crema (whipped cream topping)
Garnish (optional)
Method
Batido (shake)
Blend
In a blender add the milk (1.5 cups), yogurt (0.5 cups), sliced banana, strawberries (1 cup), granulated sugar (2 tbs) and vanilla extract (0.5 tsp). Add the ice cubes (6). Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and homogenous. If too thick, add 2–4 tablespoons more milk; if too thin, add a couple more ice cubes or a few frozen berries and pulse to thicken.
Taste and adjust sweetness. If you prefer it sweeter, add up to 1 tbs more sugar and pulse briefly to incorporate.
Crema (whipped cream topping)
Chill and whip
Place a medium bowl and the whisk or beaters in the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes to chill (optional, but yields better volume). Pour the heavy whipping cream (0.75 cups) into the chilled bowl. Add powdered sugar (1 tsp) and vanilla extract (0.25 tsp). Using a hand mixer or whisk, whip at medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 2–3 minutes. Do not overwhip — stop when the cream holds gentle peaks.
Spoon or pipe the whipped cream onto the prepared batido just before serving.
Assembly & garnish
Pour the blended batido into a tall glass, leaving about 1 inch (2–3 cm) at the top for the whipped cream.
Top with a generous dollop of the freshly whipped cream. Garnish with the fresh strawberry or banana slice and sprinkle the grated chocolate or a pinch of cocoa powder over the cream.
Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon.
