Fish and Chips

Method

Preparation

1

Make the Fries

Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips. Soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes. Drain and pat dry.

2

Fry the Potatoes

Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

3

Prepare the Batter

In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth.

4

Fry the Haddock

Dip each haddock fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place into hot oil and fry until golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

5

Make the Coleslaw

In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrot. In another bowl, mix mayonnaise, lemon juice, pickles, salt, and pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot, and toss to combine.

6

Serve

Arrange the fries on a plate, top with the fried haddock, and serve with a side of coleslaw and tartar sauce.
