Method
Prepare Cocktail Base
- 1
Juice and measure
If using whole grapefruits, roll one on the counter to loosen juices, cut in half and juice until you have 3 oz (about 1/2 cup) of fresh pink grapefruit juice. Strain if you prefer pulp-free.
- 2
Add 3 oz fresh pink grapefruit juice, 1.5 oz vodka, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add 0.5 tsp simple syrup (adjust to your sweetness preference). If you prefer less sweetness or a dryer style, omit or reduce the syrup.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice, cap, and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled.
Finish & Serve
- 5
Strain the chilled mixture into a rocks glass or coupe filled with fresh ice (or serve up in a chilled coupe without ice).
- 6
Top with 2 oz chilled club soda or sparkling water and gently stir once to combine — just enough to bring a light effervescence.
- 7
Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down and giving it a quick pinch, then drop the twist into the glass. Add a mint sprig if desired.
- 8
Taste and adjust: add a few drops more simple syrup if you want sweeter, or another squeeze of lime if you want brighter acidity.
