Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare the glass
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Pour the kosher or coarse salt onto a small plate and press the moistened rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
Combine cocktail ingredients
Add ice to a cocktail shaker until roughly half full (about 1 cup). Pour in 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice and 0.5 oz agave syrup. Secure the lid.
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosty on the outside.
Strain and top
Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice if you prefer it on the rocks. Double-strain (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer if available) the shaken mixture into the glass. Top with 2 oz chilled grapefruit soda to add effervescence and balance — pour gently to preserve carbonation.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wheel or grapefruit wedge on the rim. Serve immediately with a short stirring straw so the guest can briefly mix if desired.
Notes
Adjust sweetness to taste by increasing or decreasing agave syrup. For a saltless rim, omit the salting step. If you prefer more grapefruit flavor, increase fresh grapefruit juice to 1.5 oz and reduce soda accordingly.
