Cocktail Base

Method

Prep & Muddle

  1. 1

    Prepare fruit and herbs

Hull and slice 3 fresh strawberries. Cut seedless watermelon into small cubes until you have about 1/2 cup. Remove large stems from mint and reserve 12 leaves. Cut 2 lime wedges; set one aside for garnish.

  2. 2

    Muddle fruit and mint

In a sturdy mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add the sliced strawberries, watermelon cubes, 10 mint leaves (reserve 2 leaves for garnish), and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Add the juice from one lime wedge (approximately 0.5 oz) or measured 0.75 oz fresh lime juice total as listed in ingredients. Using a muddler, gently press and twist about 8–10 times until the strawberries and watermelon release juices and mint is fragrant. Avoid over-muddling the mint to prevent bitterness.

Build & Shake

  1. 3

Add 3 oz Grey Goose Essences Watermelon & Basil and the remaining measured lime juice (if you used 0.5 oz earlier from the wedge, add remaining 0.25 oz to reach 0.75 oz total). Fill the shaker with ice (about 3/4 full) and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.

Finish & Serve

  1. 4

Strain the shaken mixture (fine strain recommended to remove pulp and seeds) into a highball or Collins glass filled with crushed ice.

  2. 5

Top with 2 oz club soda and gently stir twice with a bar spoon to combine.

  3. 6

Garnish with the reserved mint sprig and either a strawberry slice or a small watermelon wedge on the rim. Optionally slap the mint between your palms before garnishing to release aroma.

  4. 7

Serve immediately with a straw. Provide a small stirring spoon so the guest can re-mix as the fruit settles.
