Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass and mint
Choose a chilled copper mule mug or a highball glass. Place 4 fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker or mixing glass.
- 2
Muddle
Gently muddle the mint leaves just enough to release fragrant oils — 4–6 gentle presses. Do not pulverize; you want aroma without bitterness.
- 3
Combine spirits and citrus
Add 2 oz Smirnoff Vodka, 1 oz watermelon syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice to the shaker with the muddled mint.
- 4
Shake with ice
Add enough ice to fill the shaker about 3/4 full (roughly 1 cup). Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 8–10 seconds to chill and lightly dilute the mixture.
- 5
Strain into glass
Fill your mule mug or highball glass with fresh ice (cubes or crushed). Double-strain (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh if available) the shaken mixture into the prepared glass to keep mint fragments out while preserving aroma.
- 6
Top with ginger beer
Gently top the cocktail with 4 oz Canada Dry Ginger Beer. Stir once or twice with a bar spoon to combine — avoid vigorous stirring so the ginger beer keeps its carbonation.
- 7
Garnish and finish
Slap the remaining 2 mint leaves between your hands to release oils and tuck them into the top of the drink. Garnish with a small watermelon wedge and a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately with a short straw.
