Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Select a highball or Collins glass (12–14 oz). Fill the glass with ice to chill while you build the drink.

  2. 2

    Mix base

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz Galliano, 4 oz fresh orange juice, and 0.5 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half). Add a generous handful of ice (about 4–6 large cubes).

  3. 3

    Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and the cream is emulsified with the juice, creating a slightly frothy texture.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the chilling ice from the glass. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over fresh ice (about 4–6 cubes), leaving about 1.5–2 oz of headroom for ginger ale.

  5. 5

    Top with ginger ale

Gently pour 1.5 oz chilled ginger ale down the side of the glass to preserve effervescence and create a light fizzy top. Do not stir vigorously; a gentle swirl is fine to integrate flavors without losing bubbles.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with an orange wheel or twist on the rim and optionally drop in a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw. Advise the drinker to give the cocktail a gentle stir before sipping if desired.
