Churro Dough

Sugar Coating

Method

Churro Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

  2. 2

    Add Flour

Once boiling, remove from heat and add the all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Eggs

Let the mixture cool for a few minutes. Then, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

Frying Churros

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Pipe the Dough

Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe strips of dough (about 6 inches long) into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.

  3. 6

    Fry Until Golden

Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Sugar Coating

  1. 7

    Mix Sugar and Cinnamon

In a shallow bowl, mix together the ½ cup of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

  2. 8

    Coat Churros

While the churros are still warm, roll them in the sugar-cinnamon mixture until well coated.

Chocolate Sauce Preparation

  1. 9

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 10

    Melt Chocolate

Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and fully combined.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve

Serve the churros warm with the chocolate sauce on the side for dipping.
