Method

Preparation of Topping

  1. 1

    Dice the Tomatoes

Wash the ripe tomatoes under running water, then remove the stems. Dice them into small cubes and place in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Chop the Basil

Wash the fresh basil leaves, pat them dry with a paper towel, and then chop them finely. Add to the bowl with the diced tomatoes.

  3. 3

    Mince the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely. Add the minced garlic to the bowl with tomatoes and basil.

  4. 4

    Mix the Topping

Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomato mixture. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Stir gently to combine all ingredients. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Preparation of Bread

  1. 5

    Slice the Bread

Take the loaf of baguette or Italian bread and slice it diagonally into 1/2-inch thick slices.

  2. 6

    Grill the Bread

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Place the sliced bread on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Top the Bread

Once the bread is grilled, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Spoon the prepared tomato mixture generously on top of each slice of bread.

  2. 8

    Serve

Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately. Enjoy as an appetizer or snack!
