Prepare glass
Chill a rocks or stemmed wine glass briefly by filling with ice and setting aside for 1–2 minutes, or place the glass in the freezer for 5 minutes. Discard chilling ice and any water before building the drink.

Build the Sbagliato
Fill the chilled glass about two-thirds full with fresh ice. Pour 1 oz Campari and 1 oz sweet vermouth over the ice.

Top with bubbles
Carefully top the mixture with 1 oz chilled Prosecco (or other sparkling wine). Do not stir vigorously — a gentle stir or one or two slow turns with a bar spoon is enough to combine without flattening the bubbles.

Garnish and serve
Express the oils from the orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick twist, then drop the peel into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately.
