Base Ingredients

Method

Gelato Preparation

1

Create the Base

In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved.

2

Add Flavoring

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

3

Chill the Base

Once cooled, cover the mixture and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to chill thoroughly.

4

Churn the Gelato

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes, until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

5

Freeze the Gelato

Transfer the churned gelato into an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours to harden.
