Brewed with 100% Centennial hops from the Pacific Northwest and named after the Two Hearted River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this IPA is bursting with hop aromas ranging from pine to grapefruit.

Heat 6.5 gallons of filtered water to 165°F (74°C). Add 10 lbs of pale malt and 1 lb of crystal malt to the water. Stir well to ensure there are no dry clumps.

Mash In

Maintain the mash temperature at 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes. Stir occasionally to promote even temperature.

Mash Rest

After the mash rest, raise the temperature to 170°F (77°C). Sparge with additional hot water to collect about 6.5 gallons of wort.

Sparging

Bring the collected wort to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add 1 oz of Centennial hops for bittering. Boil for 60 minutes.

Boil Wort

With 15 minutes remaining in the boil, add 1 oz of Centennial hops for flavor.

Add Flavor Hops

At the end of the boil, add 1 oz of Centennial hops for aroma. Remove the wort from heat.

Add Aroma Hops

Cool the wort rapidly to about 70°F (21°C) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter and pitch 1 pkg of American Ale yeast.

Pitch Yeast

Seal the fermenter and allow it to ferment at 68-72°F (20-22°C) for about 2 weeks.

Fermentation

After fermentation, siphon the beer into sanitized bottles, adding priming sugar to each bottle for carbonation. Cap the bottles and let them age for another 2 weeks at room temperature.

Bottle Conditioning

After 2 weeks, chill the bottles in the fridge, pour into a glass, and enjoy your homemade Bell's Two Hearted Ale!
