Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice cubes until roughly 3/4 full (about 1 cup).

  2. 2

    Add grenadine and lime

Pour 0.5 oz house-made grenadine into the glass over the ice, then add 0.25 oz fresh lime juice. The grenadine will sink slightly, creating a layered effect.

  3. 3

    Top with soda

Carefully pour 6 oz chilled Sprite (or lemon-lime soda) into the glass. Pour slowly down the side or over the back of a spoon to preserve the layered look if desired. Gently stir once or twice to integrate flavors while keeping some color gradient.

  4. 4

    Garnish and finish

Skewer a maraschino cherry and drop it into the drink (or place on the rim). Add a lime wheel on the rim if using. Serve with a straw and an optional stirrer.

House-made grenadine (if you need to make it)

  1. 5

Combine 1 cup pomegranate juice (or 1 cup pure pomegranate concentrate) with 1 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat and stir until sugar fully dissolves (do not boil). Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Optionally stir in 1/2 tsp lemon juice for brightness and 1/4 tsp orange blossom water for aroma. Transfer to a clean bottle and refrigerate; use within 2–3 weeks.
