Cocktail

Method

Prepare and Mix

1

Chill glass (optional)

If you prefer a colder drink, place your old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink.

2

Fill a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker halfway with large ice cubes. Large cubes melt slower and prevent quick dilution.

3

Measure and pour 2 oz blended Scotch whisky into the mixing glass over the ice.

4

Measure and add 1 oz amaretto liqueur to the mixing glass with the whisky.

5

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. The goal is to chill and integrate the flavors without over-diluting.

Finish & Serve

6

Discard the ice water from your old-fashioned glass if you used it, then add 1–2 fresh large ice cubes to the glass.

7

Strain the stirred whisky-amaretto mixture into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the fresh ice using a julep or hawthorne strainer.

8

Express the oils from an orange peel by holding it over the drink, skin-side down, and giving it a firm twist to release the citrus oils. Run the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink as garnish (optional).

9

Optionally, add a Luxardo or maraschino cherry on a cocktail pick and rest it on the glass or drop it in.

10

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the interplay between the smoky, malty Scotch and the sweet almond notes of the amaretto.
