Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pears

Wash the pears thoroughly under running water. Remove the stems and cores, then chop them into quarters.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the chopped pears, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and lemon juice.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Simmer the Mixture

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. 4

    Strain the Cider

After simmering, remove the pot from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the liquid into a large bowl or pitcher, discarding the solids.

  3. 5

    Cool and Serve

Allow the cider to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh pear slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon powder if desired.
