Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients for the mozzarella sticks. Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Mozzarella Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Next, dip it in the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the mozzarella stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs.

  3. 3

    Chill the Mozzarella Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This step helps the cheese to hold its shape during frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 8

    Add the Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together.

  4. 10

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Adjust seasoning as needed.
