Method
Frozen Margarita Layer
- 1
- 2
Blend margarita
In a high-speed blender combine 1.5 cups tequila, 0.5 cups triple sec, 0.75 cups fresh lime juice, 0.5 cups simple syrup and 6 cups ice. Blend on high until smooth and slushy, about 30–60 seconds depending on your blender. Stop and scrape down sides if needed to ensure even texture. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity: add up to 2 tbs more simple syrup to sweeten or 1–2 tbs more lime juice to brighten.
- 3
Chill slightly
Transfer the margarita slush to a chilled container and place in the freezer for 5–10 minutes while you make the sangria slush — you want it firm enough to hold a swirl but not rock solid.
Sangria Slush Layer
- 4
Blend sangria slush
In a clean blender combine 3 cups red wine, 0.25 cups orange liqueur (optional), 0.5 cups fresh orange juice, 0.25 cups simple syrup, 2 cups frozen mixed berries and 3 cups ice. Blend until smooth and slushy, about 30–60 seconds. The frozen berries will color the mix; if it's too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons orange juice or a splash of wine to loosen.

Adjust flavor
Taste the sangria slush and adjust sweetness with a little more simple syrup if needed, or more orange juice for brightness. Chill briefly (2–5 minutes) so it's the same serving temperature as the margarita slush.
Assembly & Garnish

Layer or swirl
Remove glasses from freezer. Using a large spoon or ladle, spoon a generous 1/3–1/2 cup of sangria slush into the bottom of each glass. Tilt the glass slightly and follow with 1/3–1/2 cup of margarita slush placed next to the sangria slush to create a distinct seam. Continue alternating small scoops of each slush, layering or nudging with the back of the spoon to create a decorative swirl effect until the glass is filled, leaving a little room at the top (about 1/2 inch). Aim for roughly equal volumes of each layer so the colors swirl.
