Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass (optional sugared rim)
If you want a sugared rim, chill the martini/coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. Rub the rim with a cut mandarin wedge, then dip the rim into a shallow plate with coarse sugar to coat. Set the glass aside.
- 2
Measure & add ingredients
Fill the cocktail shaker with large ice cubes. Add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz mandarin liqueur, 1 oz freshly squeezed and strained mandarin juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz cranberry juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (if you prefer slightly sweeter). Add 1 dash orange or mandarin bitters if using.
- 3
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and well-chilled. This both chills the mixture and creates slight dilution for balance.
- 4
Double strain & serve
Place a fine strainer over your chilled glass and pour the cocktail through the shaker strainer and then the fine strainer to remove ice shards and pulp. This yields a silky, clear drink.
Garnish
- 5
Express the oils from a mandarin peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the drink and giving it a quick twist. Rub the peel around the glass rim if desired, then drop the peel into the cocktail or rest a thin mandarin wheel on the rim.
Serve
- 6
Serve immediately. The Mandarin Cosmopolitan is best enjoyed chilled and consumed within a few minutes while the aromatics are fresh.
