Margarita Cocktail
Method
Margarita Cocktail
- 1
Prepare the glass
Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass to moisten it. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and gently press the glass rim into the salt so the salt lightly adheres. Set the glass aside.
- 2
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, and 0.25 oz agave syrup (if using) into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with enough ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
- 4
Strain and serve
If serving on the rocks, fill the prepared glass with fresh ice. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer (or a single strainer if fine mesh not available). For a straight-up Margarita, double-strain into the chilled, salted coupe without ice.
- 5
Garnish
Finish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
- 6
Notes: Taste before serving. If the cocktail is too tart, add another 0.25 oz agave and gently stir once. For a lighter orange flavor, reduce orange liqueur to 0.5–0.75 oz and compensate with 0.25–0.5 oz more tequila or a splash of soda if desired.
