Toast

Method

Toast

1

Prepare toaster or pan

Preheat your toaster to medium setting or heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat if toasting on the stovetop.

2

Optional butter

If using butter or oil for flavor or a crisper surface, lightly spread about 1/2 tablespoon total (from the listed 1 tbs) on one side of each bread slice. If you prefer toasting without fat, skip this step.

3

Place the bread slices in the toaster and toast until golden and edges are slightly crisp, about 2–4 minutes depending on toaster and preference. If using a skillet, place bread buttered-side down (if buttered) and cook 1–2 minutes per side until golden, flipping once with tongs or a spatula.

4

Remove toast and place on a plate. If you spread butter only on one side before toasting, you can lightly butter the other side now if desired.

Jam

5

Spoon about 1 teaspoon of jam per slice onto each warm toast (total about 2 teaspoons). If jam is very thick or cold, microwave the jar briefly (5–10 seconds) or stir to loosen before spreading.

6

Using the back of the spoon or a butter knife, spread the jam evenly over the top surface of each toast, covering to the edges if you like a fully coated toast. Use more jam to taste — the recipe lists 2 tsp as a starting amount.

Optional toppings

7

If using fresh fruit, arrange slices (banana, strawberries, etc.) on top of the jam immediately so they adhere to the spread.

8

For extra sweetness or flavor, drizzle up to 1 teaspoon honey over the jam and fruit, or sprinkle a light dusting (about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp) of ground cinnamon.

9

Serve immediately while toast is still warm for best texture and flavor.
