Fresh Orange Juice

Garnish (optional)

Method

Fresh Orange Juice

1

Prepare oranges

Wash the oranges thoroughly under cool running water to remove any residue. Pat them dry. Roll each orange on the counter using your palm with gentle pressure to help release more juice.

2

Cut and juice

Cut each orange in half crosswise. Using a manual or electric citrus juicer, juice all orange halves into a large measuring cup or pitcher. If you prefer pulp-free juice, strain the freshly squeezed juice through a fine-mesh sieve into the pitcher, pressing gently on solids to extract liquid; discard solids.

3

Adjust consistency and sweetness

Taste the juice. If it tastes too strong or pulpy, add 1/4 cup cold water and stir. If it needs sweeter balance, dissolve up to 1 teaspoon granulated sugar in a tablespoon of warm water and stir into the juice. Add a tiny pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of kosher salt if the flavor seems flat, and mix well. Chill briefly if desired.

4

Serve

Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the orange juice over the ice, stir once, and garnish with an orange slice and a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately for best fresh flavor.
