Smoothie Base

Method

Prepare Fruit

  1. 1

    Peel and cube mango

If using fresh mango, peel and cut away the flesh from the pit, then dice into roughly 1/2-inch cubes until you have about 1.5 cups. If using frozen mango, measure frozen cubes and skip peeling.

  2. 2

    Slice banana

Slice half a ripe banana into coins to help it blend smoothly and add natural sweetness. If using frozen banana, measure the equivalent (about 1/2 cup).

Blend Smoothie

  1. 3

Add the mango, banana, Greek yogurt, milk, and orange juice to a blender.

  2. 4

Add honey or agave, lime juice, and optional vanilla and cardamom.

  3. 5

Add the ice cubes last to help chill and thicken the smoothie.

  4. 6

Secure the blender lid and blend on medium-high for 45–60 seconds, or until completely smooth and no large fruit pieces remain. If the smoothie is too thick, add up to 2 tablespoons (30 ml) more milk or orange juice and blend 10–15 seconds more. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes or 2–3 tablespoons of frozen mango and blend until thickened.

Serve

  1. 7

Pour the smoothie into a 16 oz glass. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired, adding an extra 1/2 teaspoon honey and stirring or briefly pulsing in the blender.

  2. 8

Garnish with a mango slice or mint sprig and serve immediately with a straw.
