Method
Pre-Cleanse & Consultation
Client Intake & Patch Check
Review consultation notes for skin type, medications, and sensitivities. Ask about recent retinoid or acne medication use. Perform a spot patch test for any new actives if needed and confirm informed consent.
Remove makeup and surface impurities using 2 tbs gentle foaming or gel cleanser applied with damp cotton pads or a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat skin dry with a clean towel.
Deep Cleanse & Exfoliation
BHA Cleanse
Apply 1.5 tbs salicylic acid cleanser over the T-zone and areas with congestion. Massage gently for 60–90 seconds to dissolve sebum within pores. Rinse with warm water.
Enzyme Exfoliation & Steam
Apply 1 tbs enzyme exfoliant thinly across the face, avoiding the eye area. Steam the face with a warm towel for 3–5 minutes or use a steamer to help loosen debris in pores. Leave enzyme on for recommended time per product (typically 3–7 minutes). Remove with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Extraction & Pore Treatment
Preparation
Put on disposable gloves. Soak sterile gauze in antiseptic solution and lightly press over target areas to sanitize the surface and reduce bacterial transfer.
Manual Extractions
Using a sterile comedone extractor or gloved fingers wrapped in gauze, apply gentle, steady pressure around each clogged pore. Only extract when the follicular plug can be easily expressed; do not force. Wipe away expressed material with sterile gauze dampened with antiseptic.
Clay Mask Pore Absorption
Mix 2 tbs clay mask with 2 tbs activator/water using a spatula until a spreadable paste forms. Apply a thin layer to the T-zone and other congested areas. Leave on for 8–12 minutes until slightly firm but not overly drying, then remove with damp gauze or warm water. This helps draw out residual impurities and absorb excess oil.
Active Serums & LED Therapy
Antiseptic & Serum Application
Pat the skin dry and apply 1 tsp niacinamide serum evenly across the face focusing on congested zones to reduce oil and minimize pores. Follow with 1 tsp azelaic acid serum over areas of redness or persistent congestion. Allow 1–2 minutes for serums to absorb.
Hyaluronic Hydration
Apply 1 tsp lightweight hyaluronic acid serum to damp skin to provide hydration and support barrier recovery.
LED Therapy
Place protective eye pads or goggles on the client. Set the LED device to the appropriate protocol for pore purification: combination blue (for antibacterial) + low-level red (for healing/inflammation reduction). Typical timing: 10–15 minutes. Maintain device at recommended distance from skin per manufacturer instructions. Monitor client comfort during the session.
Soothing & Protection
Calming Mask
After LED, apply a soothing mask (aloe or centella) over the face and leave for 5–10 minutes to calm any redness from extractions or actives. Remove mask with cool compress or damp gauze.
Finish & SPF
Apply a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer using upward strokes. If the client will be exposed to daylight, finish with a broad-spectrum SPF applied evenly (about 1 tsp for the face). Provide aftercare instructions: avoid harsh exfoliants, direct sun exposure, and active retinoids for 48–72 hours if extractions or strong actives were used. Encourage gentle cleansing and moisturizing at home.
Cleanup & Documentation
Dispose of single-use items, sanitize reusable tools per protocol, and document the treatment performed, client reactions, and recommended home care and product suggestions.
