Base Oil

Method

Prepare Oil Blend

1

Melt base if solid

If your coconut oil is solid, place 0.75 cups in a heatproof bowl or glass jar and set it over a small saucepan of simmering water (double boiler). Warm gently until just melted — do not overheat; aim for a warm liquid, about 40–50°C (104–122°F).

2

Combine carrier oils

Remove the melted coconut oil from heat. Stir in 2 tablespoons jojoba oil, 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil, and 1 teaspoon castor oil until fully incorporated. These carriers thin the coconut oil slightly for easier scalp spread and add nourishing properties.

3

Add essential oils (optional)

If using essential oils, add 6 drops tea tree, 4 drops peppermint, and 4 drops lavender. Stir thoroughly. Taste/smell is optional — adjust to preference but keep total essential oil concentration low (generally under 2% for scalp use).

4

Cool and store

Let the blend cool slightly, then transfer to a clean glass storage jar and seal. The mixture can be used warm or at room temperature. If it solidifies (in cool weather), you can scoop a small amount and warm between palms or briefly in a warm water bath before applying.

Application & Massage

5

Preparation: Drape a towel over shoulders and have your storage jar, towel or shower cap ready. If warming the oil for immediate use, place a portion (1–2 tablespoons) in a small heatproof container in a bowl of hot water for 1–2 minutes until warm but not hot; test temperature on the inside of your wrist.

6

Section hair: Divide hair into 4–6 sections using clips or fingers so you can access the scalp easily.

7

Apply oil to scalp

Scoop or pour approximately 1–2 teaspoons at a time onto your fingertips or directly onto the scalp along a part line. Work methodically from the front hairline to the nape, applying to each section until the entire scalp has a thin, even coating. Total oil used per treatment: about 1–2 tablespoons (adjust to hair length & dryness).

8

Massage technique

Using your fingertips (not nails), apply firm but gentle pressure and perform circular motions for 3–7 minutes across the whole scalp. Focus 30–60 seconds on each major area (front, crown, sides, nape). For extra stimulation, use upward strokes and small kneading motions at the base of the skull. The peppermint oil should give a cool tingling; stop if it feels irritating.

9

Distribute through lengths (optional): If you want longer-hair conditioning, lightly smooth any remaining oil down the mid-lengths and ends using palms or a wide-tooth comb — don’t overload to avoid greasiness.

10

Heat & rest

For deeper penetration, wrap hair in a warm towel or wear a shower cap and leave the treatment for 30–60 minutes. For an intensive overnight treatment, wear a protective cap and pillow cover and rinse in the morning.

11

Rinse & shampoo

To remove oil, rinse hair with warm water and apply a gentle sulfate-free shampoo. You may need to shampoo twice: first to break up oil, second to cleanse fully. Follow with conditioner if desired. Towel-dry and style as usual.

12

Storage & shelf life: Store the jar in a cool, dark place. When stored properly, the blend will keep 6–12 months (shorter if using unpreserved fresh ingredients). Discard if you detect rancid smell or discoloration.
