Base Oil

Method

Prepare Base

1

measure and melt

Scoop 1 cup virgin coconut oil into a small heatproof bowl or measuring cup. If the oil is solid (below ~76°F/24°C), gently warm it until it is liquid using either a warm water bath (place the bowl in a pan of hot water) or brief 10–15 second bursts in a microwave. Warm only until fully melted and comfortably warm to the touch — avoid overheating.

2

optionally lighten texture

If you prefer a lighter, less greasy feel, stir in 1/4 cup sweet almond oil into the melted coconut oil until fully combined and uniform in appearance.

Add Therapeutic & Aroma Oils

3

cool slightly

Allow the oil blend to cool for 2–3 minutes so it is warm but not hot. Essential oils are volatile and can degrade if added to very hot oil.

4

add essential oils

Add 10 tsp (approximately 50 drops) lavender essential oil and 2 tsp (approximately 10 drops) peppermint essential oil to the warm base. Stir thoroughly with a spoon or small whisk for 20–30 seconds to ensure even distribution. (If you prefer a single scent or different therapeutic action, adjust quantities while keeping total essential oil concentration moderate — see note.)

5

add vitamin E

If using, add 1 tsp vitamin E oil and stir to incorporate. Vitamin E acts as a minor antioxidant to help extend shelf life and provides additional skin nourishment.

Finish & Store

6

transfer to container

Using a funnel or carefully pouring, transfer the finished oil into a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Leave a small headspace. Wipe any spills from the jar rim and seal.

7

cool and label

Let the jar sit at room temperature to fully solidify if you prefer a soft balm texture, or refrigerate briefly (10–20 minutes) to speed solidification. Label the jar with contents and the date made.

8

usage

To use as a massage oil, warm a small amount in your palms until liquid (if solid) and apply to skin. For a full-body massage, start with 1–2 tablespoons per person and add more as needed. Avoid applying to broken skin. Perform a patch test before first use if skin is sensitive.

9

shelf life & safety

Store in a cool, dark place. With vitamin E added and sterile handling, expect 6–12 months shelf life. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the oil develops an off smell or discoloration. Essential oil concentrations in this recipe are moderate for topical use; if pregnant, nursing, or on medication, consult a healthcare professional before using essential oils.
