Drink Base

Sweeteners & Flavor

Method

Prepare Juices & Sweetener

1

Sweeten orange juice

If using whole oranges, roll them firmly on the counter to loosen juices, then cut and squeeze until you have 1 cup of fresh orange juice. While juice is still slightly warm from pressing (or at room temperature), stir in the granulated sugar until dissolved. Add the lime juice (if using) and the vanilla extract; stir to combine. Place the sweetened orange juice in the refrigerator or an ice bath to chill thoroughly (about 10–15 minutes).

Chill Milk

2

Ensure the milk is well chilled before assembling the drink. For best texture and a pleasantly thick mouthfeel, refrigerate the milk for at least 30 minutes beforehand. If you need it colder quickly, place milk in a bowl over ice for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble the Drink

3

Fill a tall glass or pitcher with ice cubes (about 1 cup of ice per 2 servings). Pour the chilled milk over the ice, filling the glass approximately two-thirds full (about 2/3 of the total glass volume for a single serving).

4

Slowly pour the chilled, sweetened orange juice over the milk. Pour gently so the orange juice initially floats and creates the signature marbled effect. Do not stir if you want the classic layered appearance; if you prefer uniform flavor, stir gently to combine.

5

Taste and adjust sweetness if needed: if the drink is too tart, add up to 1 teaspoon more sugar dissolved in a small amount of warm water or a splash of extra orange juice if you prefer not to add sugar.

Garnish & Serve

6

Garnish each glass with an orange slice or a small twist of orange zest and, if using, a mint sprig. Serve immediately while cold. Stir before drinking if you want a consistent flavor throughout.
