Method
Preparing the Tofu
- 1
Press the Tofu
Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel, place it on a plate, and put a heavy object on top (like a cast iron skillet) for about 15-20 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch in size.
- 3
Coat the Tofu
In a large bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Add the tofu cubes and toss gently until they are evenly coated with the cornstarch mixture.
Frying the Tofu
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 5
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches). Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain the Tofu
Once fried, use a slotted spoon to transfer the tofu to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Making the Dipping Sauce
- 7
Combine Ingredients
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, Sriracha, honey (or agave), sesame oil, and minced garlic until well combined.
- 8
Garnish the Sauce
Stir in the chopped green onion and sesame seeds for added flavor and garnish.
Serving
- 9
Serve and Enjoy
Serve the crispy tofu hot with the spicy dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy your deliciously fried tofu!
