Main Ingredients

Housemade Sauce

Method

Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Prepare the Squid

Clean and prepare the Japanese squid by removing the innards and beak. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Avocado

Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Slice the avocado into thin strips.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Smoked Salmon

Slice the smoked salmon into long strips, making sure they are manageable to wrap around the avocado and squid.

Making the Housemade Sauce

  1. 4

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, Sriracha, honey, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Whisk until well combined and set aside.

Assembling the BBQ Squid

  1. 5

    Wrap the Ingredients

Take a strip of smoked salmon and lay it flat. Place a few avocado slices at one end of the salmon and then position a cleaned squid on top. Carefully wrap the salmon around the squid and avocado tightly.

  2. 6

    Secure the Wrap

Use a toothpick or kitchen twine to secure the wrapped ingredients, ensuring they stay intact during cooking.

Grilling

  1. 7

    Grill the Squid

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place the wrapped squid on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the squid is opaque and cooked through.

  2. 8

    Baste with Sauce

During the last minute of grilling, brush the squid with the housemade sauce for added flavor.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Remove the squid from the grill and let it rest for a minute. Serve the BBQ squid on a plate, drizzled with any remaining sauce, and enjoy!
