Rim & Garnishes
Four Shot Components (1 Serving Each, makes 4 small shots)
Optional Shared Accents
Method
Rim & Garnishes
Combine the coarse kosher salt and grated lime zest on a small shallow plate. Spread evenly. Rub the edge of each shot glass with a lime wedge and dip the rims into the salted zest to coat. Set shot glasses aside to dry for 2–3 minutes.
Cut lime wedges and thin lime wheels for serving. Prepare orange twist and microgreens if using.
Blanco Shot (bright & clean)
Make Blanco Shot
In a cocktail shaker, combine 1 oz blanco tequila, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice (about half of the measured lime juice), and 0.25 tbsp agave syrup. Add a handful of fine ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled. Strain into a rimmed shot glass. Garnish with a small lime wedge on the rim.
Reposado Shot (smooth & slightly oaky)
Make Reposado Shot
In the shaker, add 1 oz reposado tequila, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 tbsp orange liqueur. Add ice and shake 8–10 seconds until chilled. Double-strain into the second rimmed shot glass. Garnish with a microgreen or a thin lime wheel for contrast.
Mezcal Shot (smoky & savory)
Make Mezcal Shot
In the shaker, combine 1 oz mezcal, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice, and a tiny pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of smoked chili tincture or a drop of liquid smoke if you want to amplify the smoky profile. Add ice and shake briefly (6–8 seconds). Strain into the third rimmed shot glass. Garnish with a small sprinkle of lime zest or a microgreen.
Añejo Shot (rich & dessert-like)
Make Añejo Shot
In the shaker, combine 1 oz añejo tequila with 0.25 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 tbsp agave syrup. Add ice and stir or shake gently for 6–8 seconds to chill without over-diluting. Strain into the fourth rimmed shot glass. Express an orange twist over the glass to release oils and place the twist on the rim.
Assembly & Serving
Arrange the four prepared shots on a small tray or board in this suggested order: Blanco, Reposado, Mezcal, Añejo — moving from brightest to deepest flavor. Provide the remaining lime wedges alongside for those who want to chase shots with lime. Serve immediately while chilled.
Optional pairing suggestion: include small bites such as salted roasted peanuts or citrus-marinated olives to complement the progression of flavors.
