Method
Cocktail
Build and stir
Add 2 oz Knob Creek Rye, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz amaro, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, 1 dash orange bitters and (if using) 0.25 tsp simple syrup into a mixing glass.
Fill the mixing glass with large, fresh ice. Stir vigorously for 30–45 seconds (or until well chilled and slightly diluted) to properly marry the ingredients and chill the drink.
Prepare a rocks or coupe glass by chilling it briefly (optional). Strain the stirred cocktail through a julep or fine strainer into the chilled glass over one large ice cube (for a rocks) or neat (for a coupe).
Garnish
Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down over the surface and giving it a firm twist, then rub the peel's rim on the glass and drop it into the cocktail as a garnish.
Serve immediately. Taste and, if desired, adjust sweetness in future pours by increasing simple syrup by 1/4 tsp increments.
